Who is responsible

This test is operated by Apperable, which acts as the data controller for the personal data described below.

For any question or request: info@apperable.com

What we process

There is no account, no password and no email address in this test. Access is by code, and a code is tied to a name.

  • Your name — entered by the teacher or institution that created your code.
  • Your answers — what you marked on each question, whether it was correct, how long you spent on it and how many times you changed your mind.
  • Your essay — the full text you wrote, its word count and the number of paste events.
  • Your result — your CEFR level, section scores and exam equivalents.
  • A hash of your IP address — your raw IP address is NEVER stored. Only an irreversible digest, computed with a secret key, is kept, and it is used solely to rate-limit failed code attempts from the same address.
  • Your browser information — browser and operating system, kept so that audio problems can be diagnosed.

Why we process it

  • To measure your level and show you the result.
  • To report your result to the teacher or institution that issued your code.
  • To measure how well each question discriminates and retire the ones that do not. This analysis is done in aggregate, never on one person.
  • To limit abuse — rate-limiting failed code attempts from the same address.

Legal basis: performance of a contract, and our legitimate interest in operating and improving a fair test.

Who we share it with

Your data is not sold, not used for advertising and not passed to anyone for marketing. The only recipients are the providers the service needs to run:

  • Supabase — database and file storage. Data is held in the Frankfurt (Germany) region.
  • Vercel — application hosting. Server region Frankfurt.
  • Anthropic — ESSAY SCORING. The essay you write is sent to Anthropic's AI service to be scored. Your name and your code are not sent with it.

How long we keep it

Exam records are kept for 24 months. At the end of that period your name is removed and the records are anonymised; what remains cannot be linked to any person.

Rate-limiting logs are deleted much sooner.

Cookies

There are no advertising or tracking cookies on this site. The cookies in use are functional only:

  • Exam session — to remember which exam you are taking. It cannot be read by scripts (httpOnly) and becomes useless once the exam ends.
  • Language preference — to remember which language you are reading the site in.
  • Admin session — for panel users only.

Your rights

You can contact the controller to:

  • Learn whether your personal data is being processed, and request information about it.
  • Learn the purpose of the processing and whether the data is used in line with that purpose.
  • Know the third parties to whom the data is transferred, in the country or abroad.
  • Ask for incomplete or inaccurate data to be corrected.
  • Ask for your data to be erased or destroyed, within the limits of the law.
  • Ask that corrections and erasures be notified to the third parties the data was transferred to.
  • Object to a decision reached solely by automated analysis that produces an adverse result for you.
  • Claim compensation for damage caused by unlawful processing.
